King County Metro, Sound
Transit, and the University of Washington ITS teamed to research,
develop, and test a new method of delivering passenger information.
Using the existing Mybus application, a new software interface was
constructed to transmit messages to electronic LED variable message signs.
King County Metro transit is installing these variable message signs
(VMS) at selected bus stop shelters in the Seattle metropolitan
area
The signs can display one line of text at a time. Typical messages
are shown above. Every few seconds a new message is displayed. You
can view the sign displays in your browser just as they appear at
the bus stops. Select a bus stop location from the list below and
you'll see a sign emulator for that stop. Note that this is not
a demo! The messages shown in your emulator window really are what
the bus stop sign is displaying right now about future bus departures
from that stop.
Please note that this application requires that cookies
be turned on in your browser (only session cookies are required,
if your browser supports this option). Without cookies, the text
message on the sign emulator display will not change.
Further, so that each sign emulator can be displayed in its own
browser window with the appropriate size, please ensure that Javascript
is enabled in your browser. If Javascript is not enabled, the sign
emulator will appear in the current browser window and no new window
will be opened.
